Bird's eye view of heat

Government is measuring buildings' energy efficiency.

The Direction de l'Environment is using a plane to take measurements of the amount of heat emanating from roofs in the Principality. It aims to increase Monaco's energy efficiency by 20% compared to 2006, as part of the Government's "Energie Climat" plan. Working with the Laboratoire National de Metrologie et d'Essai (LNE), the Environment Department will be taking measurements some time during December using a plane equipped with an infra-red scanner. Flights will take place at night between 21:00 and 4:00, at an altitude of 1000 to 2000 feet (300 to 600 metres).
