Public private partnerships

On Wednesday the Direction de la Cooperation Internationale (DCI) and the Chambre de Developpement Economique (CDE), met around 30 Monegasque companies that are active in Africa.

The aim of the meeting was to take account of the first results of the public-private partnership commission that was launched in September 2008.

The commission's objective is to align the interests of Monegasque companies with the needs of the DCI in project planning and implementation. By participating in developmental aid, Monaco's entrepreneurs benefit from the network of the Cooperation Monegasque and the CDE abroad, while contributing to the reputation of the Principality.

There are about a dozen business partners involved in the commission, some of which gave presentations to the audience:

  • ES-KO
  • SAMEI
  • Centre Cardio-Thoracique
  • CFM Monaco

Later in the day a tripartite agreement was signed by Government Counselor Franck Biancheri, Managing Director of CFM Monaco Gilles Martinengo, and Jean-Luc Perron of the Fondation Grameen Credit Agricole. The aim of the partnership is to support micro finance institutions and social business enterprises working in rural settings to fight poverty and promote social care.

The Government started taking action to help developing countries at the beginning of the 1990s, primarily in the domain of environmental projects. In 1998, the Cooperation Internationale pour l'Environnement et le Developpement was created to take more strategic actions. The body was further strengthened in 2003 with the creation of the Bureau de la Cooperation Internationale (BCI) to take positive steps towards achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Objectives. Since then the Government created the DCI in 2007, which is attached to the Departement des Relations Exterieures.
