New owner for Observateur magazine

Maurice Cohen has bought the Observateur de Monaco.

A relatively young magazine, the Observateur is one of a number of Monaco publications. It started out life 4 years ago as a weekly, with Catherine Bonifassi as editor. After a couple of years, Patrice Pastor took sole ownership and ran it as a monthly. Its future became uncertain towards the end of 2009 when Pastor announced that he did not intend to continue. However, shortly before Christmas Maurice Cohen stepped forward to rescue the publication.

Cohen has announced that he'll spend a couple of months getting to know the business and current management before making any decisions as to the magazine's future direction. He's admitted that he wants to give the editorial a more economic flavour, but for now, Cohen's priority, he says, is to develop the Observateur's distribution and increase subscriptions.

Cohen is famous in the region for his time as President of the Nice football team, but he's also a well-known business man in Monaco. He's lived in the Principality for 14 years and worked here since 1983. His business interests have been varied, including the creation of a communications agency, founding the Monaco Yacht Show, and a holding several positions in trade federations and chambers of commerce.
