Financial aid for hybrid vehicles questioned

L'aide à l'achat de véhicules hybrides fait débat

Conseil National seek changes to finance for eco-friendly vehicles.

Monaco's Conseil National is seeking a review of the current system of subsidies for buying electric or hybrid cars. The scheme has been in place since 1994 for professionals, and was extended to private individuals in 2000. A subsidy is available for up to 30% of the cost of an electric vehicle, with a maximum of 9000 euros. There's a flat rate of 3000 euros for a hybrid, whatever its price. Members of the parliamentary body want the scheme to be reassessed due to the number of luxury cars being purchased.

The Government is currently looking to expand the definition of "clean vehicle" and to also stop aid for buying cars where CO2 emissions are above 150g/km, whatever the means of propulsion.
