Today is International Day of Democracy.

Declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, today is the 3rd International Day of Democracy. This year's theme is political accountability: strengthening links between parliaments and citizens. The 15th September was chosen as it was the day in 1997 when the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) adopted a Universal Declaration on Democracy.
